Tooth Extractions &
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Making your extractions as comfortable as possible
Sometimes, pulling out one of your teeth is necessary. From damage and trauma through to extensive decay, when your dentist can’t resolve the issue to save your tooth it’s sometimes a good idea to remove it.
At Opal Dental, we carry out tooth extractions in Auckland. From your first appointment through to discussing replacement options, we’ll make every step of the process as comfortable as possible.
Removing teeth to maintain your oral health
The Opal Dental team offers both non-surgical and surgical extractions. They’re usually achievable when the tooth isn’t impacted, or when it’s unlikely that it will start to fragment as we remove it.
When it comes to impacted teeth such as wisdom teeth, a surgical extraction is required.
In both instances, we’ll only ever remove your teeth when it means doing so will maintain your oral health. Examples of this include:
- An infected tooth we can’t resolve with a filling or root canal.
- Damage to a tooth that we can’t repair with bridges and crowns.
- You’re immunocompromised, which means we can’t risk our usual approach to infected teeth.
- You have an impacted tooth that could damage other teeth if it grows through.
- You have an impacted tooth that’s incredibly painful.
Maintaining your comfort at all times
Undergoing a tooth extraction doesn’t need to feel daunting when you come to us. We know that maintaining your comfort is important, which is why we take a precise approach to anaesthesia.
In some situations a a surgical tooth extraction is required and we will plan and address this for you.
It’s normal to experience some swelling and pain following a tooth extraction. Your dentist will provide further advice on what to use after the procedure takes place. If we do give you antibiotics, make sure you complete the full course to prevent an infection settling in.
Depending on the type of extraction you need, you may return for a check-up appointment.
If you want to discuss your tooth extraction further, call 09 834 6359, or use our online booking system to make an appointment.
