Children’s Dentistry
Addressing your child’s oral health early in life gives them the best chance of maintaining their teeth as an adult. At Opal Dental, we deliver children’s dentistry services that give your kids the best start.
With patients from throughout Auckland, we enjoy playing a positive role in our young patients’ lives. In some circumstances, we can also provide our dental services for free.
A child-friendly dental environment
One of the best ways to prevent your child from developing a fear of the dentist is to bring them to see us early in life. As they acclimatise to our dental environment, they’ll soon see there’s nothing to be afraid of. Attending appointments regularly also gives us a chance to spot small problems before they become big ones. Identifying a misaligned bite gives us a chance to discuss interventions with you.Broadening access to dental care
As an important part of your child’s health, great dental care should be a priority. We accept referrals and payments from the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). If your child suffers from damage to their teeth because of an accident, the ACC may meet some or all of your costs. Additionally, if your child is under the age of 12 and their school dental nurse makes a referral for them to see a dentist, they’ll receive their dental care with us for free. We also cater to private patients when schools don’t make a referral.Ways to help your child’s teeth at home
Although we take great pride in providing excellent children’s dental services, we recognise that oral health starts at home. Because of this, we’re happy to offer advice on keeping your child’s teeth clean. For example:- Use fluoride-based toothpaste to protect them against plaque.
- When brushing, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and hold it at a 45-degree angle.
- If you miss any food, you can gently use floss to move it away.
- Start teaching your child how to floss around the age of eight.
- Use an age-appropriate toothpaste to ensure your child gets enough fluoride.
- When you work hard to maintain your little one’s oral health at home, they won’t need to see us so often.

Dr Charlene Borges recently replaced a six tooth bridge with a seven tooth bridge on my lower jaw. This incorporates all of my incisors and eye teeth aswell as a pre molar. The new bridge feels and looks amazing. The work is a true testament to Charlenes skill. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of quality dental work.
Thanks Charlene, you're the best.
