ACC Treatment

Providing dental care in an emergency

Sometimes accidents happen. When those accidents affect your teeth, the last thing you want to worry about is how you’ll cover your dental bills. At Opal Dental, we accept payments from the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) for our patients throughout Auckland.

Providing the damage you’ve experienced has been caused by your accident and not a pre-existing condition, the ACC will make a partial payment to us. If you’re not familiar with ACC dental payments, it’s worth learning more about them.

Covering your dental costs following an accident

The ACC covers dental damage following an accident. Such incidents may include:

  • Accidents, such as car accidents and other incidents that are unforeseen.
  • Sporting injuries.
  • Unexpected dental damage following medical or dental care.

It’s important to understand that the ACC won’t cover anything pre-existing. Such instances may include:

  • Normal wear and tear that damages your teeth or gums.
  • Pre-existing infections.
  • Any damage arising from dental technician treatment as opposed to a dentist.
  • Damage to your dentures when you weren’t wearing them.

We understand that sometimes it’s difficult to identify what the ACC will and will not pay for. Because of this, our dentists will provide advice and help you complete your paperwork.

Partial payments from the ACC

The ACC has a list of regulation payments that it will make towards your dental treatment. In the majority of cases, this is a partial payment only. Any remaining costs are paid by the patient, or their parents or carers.

After making your application for a partial payment, the ACC’s team decides whether to approve it within 10 days. They may choose to reduce your payment if it’s clear that a previous condition has contributed towards the damage you’re experiencing.

Emergency treatment for both adults and children

You can claim ACC payments for dental accidents affecting both adults and children. The Opal Dental team knows that such procedures are often time-sensitive, especially when you want to enjoy a speedy recovery. Because of this, we recommend that you contact us quickly following your accident. The sooner we’re able to issue your paperwork, the faster you’ll receive your dental care.

If you need to see a dentist following an accident, visit our online booking system. In the event that no appointments are available, you can call us to ask about emergency slots. Contact us on 09 834 6359.

Dr Charlene Borges recently replaced a six tooth bridge with a seven tooth bridge on my lower jaw. This incorporates all of my incisors and eye teeth aswell as a pre molar. The new bridge feels and looks amazing. The work is a true testament to Charlenes skill. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of quality dental work.

Thanks Charlene, you're the best.
